FICVI Regulations

OBJECTIUS:

The Vila-seca Short Film Festival will take place in Vila-seca from October 13th to 22nd, 2023. It is organized by the Vila-seca Tourism Board.

The main objectives of FICVI are to promote and disseminate cinematography in general, as well as to support short film directors and provide them with a platform to showcase their work.

CONDITIONS OF PARTICIPATION:

  • The scope of the competition is international.
  • Short films produced from January 1, 2022, onwards and not previously submitted to the previous edition are eligible to participate.
  • The theme and genre of the productions are open and unrestricted.
  • Each participant can submit one entry per category.

If the original version of the films is not in Spanish or Catalan, they must be submitted with subtitles in either of these two languages.

Productions with a maximum duration of 30 minutes are allowed to participate.

SECTIONS AND CATEGORIES

FICVI consists of two sections: Official Section and IN SITU Section.

OFFICIAL SECTION:

The Official Section consists of two categories: Fiction and Animation.

REGISTRATION

Filmmakers can register and submit their video files through the Festhome platform.

Film registrations must be made by the directors, producers, or their legal representatives.

The registration deadline is June 30, 2023. Registrations received after the specified date will not be accepted. Once a film is selected, it cannot be withdrawn from the festival’s program.

A committee will conduct a pre-selection of the submitted works and will communicate the names of the selected films to all participants, producers, and/or directors via email well in advance. The festival will also send a written announcement of the awards to all the selected participants. The recipient of this communication will be the one specified in the film’s registration form.

Advertising films will not be accepted.

The selected short films will be publicly screened during the festival days.

Directors or producers must ensure in advance that the content of their film does not infringe on the intellectual property rights or other rights of third parties, and they indemnify the organizing committee from any legal responsibility.

Fragments of the selected films may be used for the promotion and/or dissemination of the festival in media outlets (official trailer).

Participation in this festival implies acceptance of its regulations.

The selected short films must be sent in the exhibition format by August 15, 2023, via Wetransfer or Mega to info@ficvi.com.

The video files received for projection must adhere to the following specifications:

  • Minimum projection resolution in the Festival: 1920×1080 (1080p).
  • File extension: The received files must be in mp4 format.
  • Video codec: The video codec used must be Apple ProRes 422 or H264/MPEG4 AVC.
  • Audio codec: The audio codec used must be AAC or PCM.

Additional material for the selected films:

  • Biofilmography of the director/producer.
  • Copy of the Director/Producer’s ID.
  • Director’s photograph in *.jpeg format with a resolution of 300 pixels.
  • Three scene photographs from the short film in *.jpeg format with a resolution of 300 pixels.
  • Possibility of including a poster and other promotional materials.
  • Subtitled films must include an .srt file.

By submitting their films to the FICVI International Short Film Festival of Vila-seca, production companies and directors agree that, if they receive any of the festival’s awards, they will include a written reference to the award in all copies of the film distributed for commercial screening, DVD, internet, and/or audiovisual competitions, as well as in all printed promotional and informational materials (press books, posters, etc.). This reference will consist of a text stating the type of award received, accompanied by the name of the festival.

The JURY

A jury appointed by the organization and composed of 3 (three) representatives from the cultural and audiovisual industry will decide the awards. The jury’s decisions are final and cannot be appealed.

The Audience Award will be determined by the festival attendees. They will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite film.

The Young Jury Award will be decided by students in their final year of audiovisual studies, emerging filmmakers, and/or acting students.

In the event that the jury considers it necessary to award a tie, the prize amount will be divided among the eligible works.

The Organizing Committee has the authority to resolve any issues not covered in the guidelines. Their decisions are final and cannot be appealed.

INSTIU Section

The IN SITU contest is a competitive section of FICVI in which participants have to shoot a short film in Vila-seca over a weekend.

Goal

The objective is to transform Vila-seca into a large film set for a weekend, providing a space where creators from around the world can carry out their small-scale projects and share experiences with other enthusiasts and video-creation professionals.

Conditions of Participation:

The IN SITU competition is part of the programming of the FICVI (International Short Film Festival of Vila-seca) which will take place in Vila-seca from October 13th to October 22nd, 2023.

The IN SITU competition will begin on October 14th at 10:00 AM and will conclude on October 16th at 11:00 AM.

The competition is open internationally.

Anyone who has a story to tell, a camera for recording, and a computer for editing can participate in the competition.

We provide the rest.

The them and genre

The theme and genre of the productions are free.

Each participant can bring their developed script; it is not mandatory to think or write the story on-site.

Recording equipment

Each participant can bring their own team of collaborators to record their project.

Conditions of the submitted works:

The recorded short films must have a maximum duration of 3 minutes (excluding credits).

Participants are required to film, within their story, at least three (3) locations in the municipality of Vila-seca that must appear in the short film, along with an element that will be provided by the organization at the start of the competition. The locations can be chosen from various options proposed by the festival’s management.
